Digital TV Blues

I am so frustrated with the converter box issue, and after the scare when I went to the park and the tornado sirens went off while the dogs and I were there, I made the ill-advised decision to purchase a digital TV set today. I will start with the positive - it works better than the converter box, but the negatives are lengthy:

1. I had to buy my new digital television on credit
2. I had to also purchase a new antenna
3. It looks like I don't get any signal at all for most of the day
4. In the early evening I start to get a broken, pixilated image off and on which is very difficult to try to watch and even harder to listen to
5. I can get some signal later at night but it is still choppy and isn't reliable.
6. I only get one channel, just like before with my old analog TV.

So, I am still without reliable television reception, and now I have spent money on a new TV I should have applied to home repair or health issues. However, I did get to watch some of the Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson coverage tonight, so that's better than I would have done with that useless converter box!

That's my update. A fool and her money are soon parted... Boy, I miss my dependable analog TV set.

According to a report released June 7 by Nielsen, as of June 12, 2009 2.8 million Americans are now without television while unemployment rates rise simultaneously.

I own not one but two Magnavox DTV Digital to Analog Converter boxes which I will probably be stuck with since Magnavox won't stand behind their product.

Converting Analog Televisions to Digital TV Not Working for Many

I'm still without television as the converter boxes don't work on my old 1985 Quasar TV set. I have jumped through hoops and wasted too much of my life since February trying to make the converter box changeover and nothing works. You can read the full article at "Converting Analog Televisions to Digital TV Not as Easy as Promised"

Magnavox DTV Digital to Analog Converter Box # TB1110MW9 and Other Converter Boxes Do Not Work on My Television

I don't watch a lot of television, but I do depend on my TV during tornadoes or other crisis, so I have tried and tried to make this work. If I hold the converter box just right, occasionally I can pull in a pixilated black and white picture with no sound but a hiss. The picture lasts a few seconds before it is gone. Usually I can't pull it in again for several hours or several days.

On June 17 after some midday storms, the sky cleared and the sun came out. There were no warnings on the radio, so I turned on the TV, stood like the Statue of Liberty holding my antenna high over my head and was able to briefly pull in a pixilated black and white weather map that showed no activity in my area. I packed the dogs in the car, drove to the park with the radio on - no alerts - and proceeded to walk my dogs. Halfway through our 2 1/2 mile hike tornado sirens started blaring. Apparently most people in Nashville could turn on their television sets and see that the first storm had passed but a much worse storm cell was headed our way, but I couldn't get that information thanks to the good ol' FCC. The FCC has really shafted those of us in the lower income brackets and put us in harm's way because we can't get the weather maps or other alerts provided by local television stations.

A friend of mine in Wylie, Texas says Spanish-language channels are still broadcasting in Spanish in her area because it is known the poorer people are the ones who can't afford to make the switchover, and it is assumed all the poor people in Texas are Mexicans -- many of them illegal. While it is so nice of the FCC to make allowances for Spanish speaking people in Texas, what about ME? What about average American taxpayers who have lost their income and now can't even see a weather alert on their TV?

I also know folks who have purchased a new digital TV after having problems with the converter boxes, and their new digital TVs won't work unless they pay more money to switch to cable or satellite!

We were promised this would be simple: "It's easy!" says the www.dtv2009.gov website, so we all just let this happen. After all, the government said it would be easy, so enough said, right???

You may not care, because you probably have satellite or cable or a budget that will allow you to purchase new TVs and outdoor antennas, but those of us who are on fixed incomes can't afford to buy a new TV, switch to cable, get satellite or have outdoor antennas installed on our houses. This should serve as a wakeup call - the U.S. government can make a decision, promise citizens it will be easy, and then leave a great deal of its people in much worse state than they were before. Next time the government talks about changing our lives and promises it will be easy, I will be asking a LOT more questions.

Carrie Prejean Loses Miss California Crown

Fired! Carrie Prejean Loses Miss California Crown

Carrie Prejean Fired: Carrie Prejean Loses Miss California Crown After Topless Photos, Other Controversy

Topless photos, disputed with Miss California officials, and other controversies led to the announcement that Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California, was fired this week less than a month after Donald Trump told her she could keep the Miss California crown on May 12.

75_603595.jpg

Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California, was fired this week less than a month after Donald Trump told her she could keep the Miss California crown on May 12. On June 10, pageant director Keith Lewis issued a press release saying the decision to remove Carrie Prejean as Miss California was based "solely on contract violations."

Keith Lewis has been very outspoken against Carrie Prejean since she issued her controversial answer about homosexual marriage at the 2009 Miss Usa Pageant. Lewis claimed that after telling Prejean she would remain Miss California, he "hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship." Lewis then blamed Prejean for loosing her crown claiming, "It has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together.”

It is likely possible there were some disputes over which appearances Carrie Prejean would fulfill as Lewis reportedly was not forwarding all requests for appearances to Prejean. It has been apparent that Keith Lewis has had his own personal agenda in that way he has handled the Carrie Prejean situation. From the moment Perez Hilton was permitted to ask a politically-charged question that Donald Trump admitted killed Prejean's chances, whichever way she answered, Keith Lewis has made it clear his goal was to get Carrie Prejean fired. Lewis has fanned the flames of public opinion against Prejean at every opportunity making one critical statement after another. (See Miss California Carrie Prejean to Keep Crown and Title Despite Nude Photos - Personal Agenda?)

Many have been quick to throw stones at Carrie Prejean because she as been outspoken about her faith and also made some bad decisions about photos she allowed to be taken of her. She has been  the center of controversy for her comments at the Miss USA Pageant and her topless photos scandal. (See Carrie Prejean Miss California - when Christians Stumble.)

While Keith Lewis was chomping at the bit to fire Prejean, at first Donald Trum decided Carrie Prejean would remain Miss California 2009 and on May 12 Trump announced Prejean would get to keep her crown despite the controversy over her topless photos and her reply to Perez Hilton. (See Miss California Carrie Prejean to Keep Crown and Title Despite Nude Photos - Personal Agenda?)

However, on June 12, Donald Trump fired the outspoken blond beauty, who will now write a book about her experience. (See Fired! Carrie Prejean Loses Miss California Crown.) This was followed by news that Carrie Prejean was bringing a lawsuit against the Miss California organization, and they were filing a counter suit against Prejean. (See Former Miss California Carrie Prejean goes to court: Miss California lawsuits and counter suits.)

Regardless of Prejean's racy photos, Trump's waffling, and Lewis's personal agenda, all of which contributed to Prejean losing her crown, when people think of Miss California 2009, they will always think of Miss California, Carrie Prejean.

More Articles about Carrie Prejean
Everyone has heard the news by now: Miss California, Carrie Prejean, was ridiculed and insulted publicly by homosexual activist Perez Hilton following the Miss USA Pageant in April for answering his agenda-driven question with her honest opinion. While she was already drawing harsh criticism from her detractors over her Miss USA Pageant answer about gay marriage, some risqué photos began appearing on the web of Carrie Prejean in various stages of topless undress, from photos of her wearing pink underwear to photos of her in a vest that left little to the imagination.
