Dancing with the Stars All Stars season 15 week 6: Sabrina Bryan goes home

Last night Emmitt Smith cowboyed up for "Dancing with the Stars All Stars" All Stars season 15 week 6 Country Night of dancing. He and partner Cheryl Burke performed a foxtrot to “Islands in the Stream.” Emmitt was a bit nervous about doing his solo routine to a fairly slow song. However, he had fun and even managed to entertain Len, earning a 26.5, his lowest score of the season.

Intersting Article from Focus on the Family about Halloween

I do not get into Halloween as much as some of my friends. Some years I avoid it entirely, eschewing scary movies, costumes and Halloween parties. Other years I have enjoyed Halloween parties and scary movies. I am a woman of strong opinion, but I do a pendulum swing on Halloween from year to year.

I think this article about Halloween from Focus on the Family makes some good points.

Focus on the Family Community: An Open Letter About Halloween

Peanuts creator Charles Schulz made a habit of dispensing advice through the mouths of cartoon characters, especially the blanket-carrying Linus van Pelt.  GP2.jpg

Like any offering of counsel, some of it is to be heeded and some of it is not.

“There are three things you must never discuss with people,” the comic strip’s philosopher/theologian once said, “religion, politics and the Great Pumpkin.”

'Nashville' Episode 3: A Mother of an Episode (Recap) - Yahoo! Voices

With stars like Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Powers Boothe, Eric Close and others, one of my favorite things about the new ABC series "Nashville," is the the cinematography of the city itself. The shots of Nashville are stunning and make me want to revisit all the sites for myself.

Cheekwood Harvest a Colorful Nashville Fall Festival Through October 31 - Yahoo! Voices

I went with a friend to this beautiful fall festival of color at Cheekwood a couple of weeks ago. Full of flowers, pumpkins, and scarecrows in all shapes and sizes, it was well worth the trip.

A Walk in the Leaves of October

The Leaves of October

Today I got to walk with two friends in the beauty of Edwin Warner Park enjoying the colorful display of sunlight on autumn leaves. It was a spectacular view. The weather was mild, two of us took our small dogs, and we enjoyed talking while we exercised by walking 2.5 miles under the trees.

This is a poem in celebration of autumn and the beauty of October leaves:

ABC's New Hit Show "Nashville" Premiere -- an Extra's Take - Yahoo! Voices

I had the wonderful opportunity to be an extra in the pilor episode of "Nashville" where I was in the background during the bridge scene. The pilot was shot in March, about a week after I lost my sweet little dog Katie. I have to say the experience helped pull my out of the deep pit of grief I was in.

The 3rd episode airs tonight. I plan to watch the show until ABC ruins it with its usual recipe of illicit sex, debauchery and political correctness.

ABC's New Hit Show "Nashville" Premiere -- an Extra's Take (Episode 1 Recap)

Kicking off with some of Nashville's finest landmarks and scenery, ABC's new hit show "Nashville" begins with a concert scene at the Grand Ole Opry where cash poor country music superstar Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) is performing, then cuts to a spoiled up-and-comer Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) refusing to talk to her mother on the phone before she gives Rayna a thinly veiled insult about Rayna's age.

31st Annual Native American Indian Association Pow Wow

Every October American Indians from around the Nation gather in Tennessee to share part of their culture and crafts. This year's Native American Indian Association Pow Wow and Fall Festival took place on Oct. 19 and 20 at Long Hunter State Park.
One of my ancestors was one of the Long Hunters -- Benjamin Drake, and the park is in the area where my mother and father grew up in the Murfreesboro Road-Hamilton Church Pike area. It was a bit nostalgic to be back in the area with my friend Pam. We were at the Pow Wow for several hours, watched the dances, saw the crafts, ate the food. I should get at least three articles out of it! Here's the first one:

Nashville's 33rd Annual Oktoberfast pays homage to faith, friendship & fall fun

Oktoberfest in Nashville arrived with overcast skies and moderate temperatures on October 13, 2012. By midday as thousands of people gathered to enjoy the Germantown festival, the sun came out and made the day even more festive.

I went with my friend Pam and her husband Kenny, and I got to visit with my father's cousin as well as my friend Terry Kopansky from Civitan. It was a beautiful fall day and the festival was crowded, colorful and fun -- in other words, just about perfect!
