Katy Perry’s Rejection of Her Childhood Faith Should Concern Bible-Believing Christians | Christian Activities

Katy Hudson, who adopted the stage name Katy Perry, recorded a contemporary Christian album in Nashville before her meteoric rise into pop stardom. Called simply "Katy Hudson," the debut project was a mix of Christian rock and contemporary Christian music and touched on themes of a teenager growing up as well as Hudson's faith in God. But somewhere along the way, Katy lost her faith.

This article looks at Katy's background and her recent revelations on a public therapy session about her upbringing in a Christian home. At points Perry, who says she is trying to find herself as Katherine Hudson again, dissolved into tears as she made revelations about herself and her search for herself.

It is interesting to note that the therapist referred to "Katy Perry" as Katherine Hudson's "inner goddess." One has to wonder what kind of people are targeting Perry/Hudson, where they are trying to lead her and what they are trying to turn her into.

Seventy-five or so Alumni from Hillsboro High School Class of 1972, as well as spouses and alumni from other classes, participated in their 45th Class Reunion the weekend of June 24, 2017, in the Green Hills suburb of Nashville, TN.

Events included a mixer at the Crow's Nest in Green Hills on Friday night, a luncheon and field trip to the high school on Saturday, and the reunion weekend culminated in a lavish party at a private home in Oak Hill on Saturday night. The poolside party lasted from 6 pm until it started winding down a little before midnight.

The class of '72 reunion committee did a wonderful job or planning, organizing and getting the word out. The next reunion is already in the planning stages for 2022. Members who have not been to a reunion yet are encouraged to join in the fun of reminiscing with people who grew up sharing the same music and memories.

BMI Christian Awards Honors Songwriters and Publishers

2017 BMI Christian Awards winners

BMI held their annual Christian music awards at the BMI offices in Nashville, TN last night, celebrating the most performed contemporary Christian, inspirational and southern gospel songs of 2016.

The invitation-only awards dinner is an eagerly anticipated event each year and draws from an international assortment of Christian music industry leaders, songwriters, publishers, performers and the media.

Acclaimed producer and prolific songwriter Bernie Herms received the BMI Christian Music Songwriter of the Year Award at last night’s BMI Christian Music Awards, the top honor of the night and another victory for Herms who won a GRAMMY® for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song earlier this year. He also received four BMI Song Awards for “Christ In Me,” “Just Be Held,” “Thy Will” and “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again.”

Herms said of the evening, "It's such an incredible honor to be recognized in this way among my colleagues and friends. I love being a part of this beautiful music community and I'm thankful for BMI's tireless work on our behalf."

'Anything Goes' Now Playing at UTK Carousel Theater--A Review

Chevy Anz and cast perform "Blow Gabriel Blow" in TVP's "Anything Goes"

The Tennessee Valley Players (TVP) are performing the classic Cole Porter musical "Anything Goes" at UT Knoxville's Carousel Theatre this week starring Chevy Anz as Reno Sweeney with Hannah Brown as Hope Harcourt and Tyler Padgett as Billy Crocker.

The musical comedy is directed by Edmund Bolt whose wife Susan stars as Evangeline Harcourt.

Anything Goes Plot

The play follows the tale of Billy Crocker, who stows away on a cruise ship to try to woo his memorable one-night-stand lover, Hope Harcourt. Meanwhile, former evangelist turned night-club-singer, Reno Sweeney has eyes for Billy and thinks the much-younger Billy loves her.

Compounding the plot are two would-be criminals, Moonface Martin (Jack Francis) and his sidekick Erma (Roxanne Cabrera) who sneak onto the boat in disguise. Moonface, Erma and eventually Reno all conspire to help Billy win Hope away from her older, wealthy English fiancé, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (Kevin Smathers).

Anything Goes Songs

Full of popular musical staples like "I Get A Kick Out of You," "You're the Top," "It's DeLovely," and "Anything Goes," the play has enough big numbers to keep the audience tapping their toes to the familiar Cole Porter lyrics and melodies, anticipating the next song. With the musical talents of opera students and veteran performers like Chevy Anz, the TVP version is definitely easy to listen to.

The set looked a little rickety and the dancing sometimes left something to be desired, but the costuming was eye catching enough to hold the attention and the performances of some of the cast were noteworthy.

Cast Members Worth Noting

Standouts included lead Chevy Anz who made a believable Reno--the bawdy showgirl with a heart of gold, Jack Francis as the frustrated and apparently almost harmless gangster Moonface Martin, and Roxanne Cabrera who stole any scene she was in as the flighty, flirty, braying gangster's moll, Erma.

The plot is somewhat mature and moderately anti-religion/anti-Christian* and was considered risqué when the musical premiered in 1934 but is fairly tame in light of 21st-century entertainment

The second week of "Anything Goes" runs June 22, 23 and 24 at 7:30 pm and June 25 at 3:00 pm at the Ula Love Doughty Carousel Theatre at University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

*( i.e. evangelist turned night-club singer, bawdy references to angels, two "padres" on the ship both less-than-savory characters, burlesque "revival" service, etc.)

Beautiful Video Shows the Relationship Between Marriage and the Gospel

It's June and that means wedding season. A church in England has come up with a video to show the symbolism between the marriage covenant and the relationship between Christ and the church.

"This Is About That,” illustrates some of the ways marriage reflects the gospel.

Take a look at the video to learn more about marriage and about the relationship between Christ and His church.
