Bluegrass Legend Doug Dillard of The Dillards & The Darlings Dead at 75 Born March 6, 1937 in Salem, Missouri, Doug Dillard, a celebrated bluegrass musician also known for playing one of The Darling boys on "The Andy Griffith Show," passed away in Nashville on May 16, 2012, following a lengthy illness. Dillard's death closely follows the death of fellow Mayberrian and Nashvillian, George Lindsey, best known as Goober Pyle, who died on May 6. Hosted by Kathy Mattea and Hot Rize, the stellar event kicked off with a semi-formal cocktail reception at the Renaissance Hotel where the bluegrass luminaries mingled with their fans and the media before the artists move on to the Ryman where the Awards Show took place....
