Shane Clark to Release “The Hymn Awakening” | Christian Activities

Shane Clark

This guy has an incredible story to tell as well as an endorsement from Mother Teresa!!

Shane Clark wants to make it clear--he is a missionary who sings; not a singer who does mission work. He was in Nashville recently to make music connections and to raise visibility for his Christ-centered therapeutic adventure camp for kids

Top 7 Reasons Not to Date a Serious Gamer

True confession: I once dated a serious gamer. For over a year. He wanted to teach me to game. I wanted to show him the sights. So of course we spent most of our relationship in front of a monitor playing video games, or at least he did.

Eventually he and his gaming/computer lifestyle broke my heart.

In honor of that learning experience, here are my top seven reasons why you should avoid dating a serious gamer:

  • 1. If you date a serious gamer, you are going to get played.
  • 2. For a gamer, it's all about the controller.
  • 3. A gamer is always looking to exploit your weaknesses.
  • 4. A gamer may look like a really nice guy but you never know what's behind the avatar.
  • 5. You may think dating a gamer will be fun, but serious gamers always like to set the difficulty level to hard.
  • 6. While you are still learning the rules, a serious gamer already knows how to beat the game.
  • 7. The risk of fall damage is potentially catastrophic when you learn a serious gamer loves AI more than you

If you have more reasons not to date a gamer, feel free to post them in the comments below.

Katy Perry’s Rejection of Her Childhood Faith Should Concern Bible-Believing Christians | Christian Activities

Katy Hudson, who adopted the stage name Katy Perry, recorded a contemporary Christian album in Nashville before her meteoric rise into pop stardom. Called simply "Katy Hudson," the debut project was a mix of Christian rock and contemporary Christian music and touched on themes of a teenager growing up as well as Hudson's faith in God. But somewhere along the way, Katy lost her faith.

This article looks at Katy's background and her recent revelations on a public therapy session about her upbringing in a Christian home. At points Perry, who says she is trying to find herself as Katherine Hudson again, dissolved into tears as she made revelations about herself and her search for herself.

It is interesting to note that the therapist referred to "Katy Perry" as Katherine Hudson's "inner goddess." One has to wonder what kind of people are targeting Perry/Hudson, where they are trying to lead her and what they are trying to turn her into.

BMI Christian Awards Honors Songwriters and Publishers

2017 BMI Christian Awards winners

BMI held their annual Christian music awards at the BMI offices in Nashville, TN last night, celebrating the most performed contemporary Christian, inspirational and southern gospel songs of 2016.

The invitation-only awards dinner is an eagerly anticipated event each year and draws from an international assortment of Christian music industry leaders, songwriters, publishers, performers and the media.

Acclaimed producer and prolific songwriter Bernie Herms received the BMI Christian Music Songwriter of the Year Award at last night’s BMI Christian Music Awards, the top honor of the night and another victory for Herms who won a GRAMMY® for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song earlier this year. He also received four BMI Song Awards for “Christ In Me,” “Just Be Held,” “Thy Will” and “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again.”

Herms said of the evening, "It's such an incredible honor to be recognized in this way among my colleagues and friends. I love being a part of this beautiful music community and I'm thankful for BMI's tireless work on our behalf."

'Anything Goes' Now Playing at UTK Carousel Theater--A Review

Chevy Anz and cast perform "Blow Gabriel Blow" in TVP's "Anything Goes"

The Tennessee Valley Players (TVP) are performing the classic Cole Porter musical "Anything Goes" at UT Knoxville's Carousel Theatre this week starring Chevy Anz as Reno Sweeney with Hannah Brown as Hope Harcourt and Tyler Padgett as Billy Crocker.

The musical comedy is directed by Edmund Bolt whose wife Susan stars as Evangeline Harcourt.

Anything Goes Plot

The play follows the tale of Billy Crocker, who stows away on a cruise ship to try to woo his memorable one-night-stand lover, Hope Harcourt. Meanwhile, former evangelist turned night-club-singer, Reno Sweeney has eyes for Billy and thinks the much-younger Billy loves her.

Compounding the plot are two would-be criminals, Moonface Martin (Jack Francis) and his sidekick Erma (Roxanne Cabrera) who sneak onto the boat in disguise. Moonface, Erma and eventually Reno all conspire to help Billy win Hope away from her older, wealthy English fiancé, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (Kevin Smathers).

Anything Goes Songs

Full of popular musical staples like "I Get A Kick Out of You," "You're the Top," "It's DeLovely," and "Anything Goes," the play has enough big numbers to keep the audience tapping their toes to the familiar Cole Porter lyrics and melodies, anticipating the next song. With the musical talents of opera students and veteran performers like Chevy Anz, the TVP version is definitely easy to listen to.

The set looked a little rickety and the dancing sometimes left something to be desired, but the costuming was eye catching enough to hold the attention and the performances of some of the cast were noteworthy.

Cast Members Worth Noting

Standouts included lead Chevy Anz who made a believable Reno--the bawdy showgirl with a heart of gold, Jack Francis as the frustrated and apparently almost harmless gangster Moonface Martin, and Roxanne Cabrera who stole any scene she was in as the flighty, flirty, braying gangster's moll, Erma.

The plot is somewhat mature and moderately anti-religion/anti-Christian* and was considered risqué when the musical premiered in 1934 but is fairly tame in light of 21st-century entertainment

The second week of "Anything Goes" runs June 22, 23 and 24 at 7:30 pm and June 25 at 3:00 pm at the Ula Love Doughty Carousel Theatre at University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

*( i.e. evangelist turned night-club singer, bawdy references to angels, two "padres" on the ship both less-than-savory characters, burlesque "revival" service, etc.)

Beautiful Video Shows the Relationship Between Marriage and the Gospel

It's June and that means wedding season. A church in England has come up with a video to show the symbolism between the marriage covenant and the relationship between Christ and the church.

"This Is About That,” illustrates some of the ways marriage reflects the gospel.

Take a look at the video to learn more about marriage and about the relationship between Christ and His church.

Losing a Friend to Suicide

I recently learned one of my friends killed himself a week ago. To say I was shocked to learn this is a vast understatement. This was someone who had already achieved a great deal and was  headed towards bigger and better things. He was admired, respected and loved by his peers and those he had authority over. It is inconceivable that this man would take his own life.

Camkix 4in1 Phone Lens Kit with Fisheye and Zoom Review

I ordered the Camkix 4in1 Phone Lens Kit on Amazon.com after seeing a clip-on zoom lens for camera phones advertised on Instagram with terrible reviews.  The Camkix 4in1 Phone Lens had better reviews on Amazon, so I decided to give it a try. This is my review of the kit.

Positives

The customer service I received from Camkix was outstanding after there was a problem with my first order. I received fast, polite, professional service and was completely satisfied with how they resolved the situation.

The concept is great.

The case is functional, with a place for the lenses to screw in which works well. It appears to be moderately sturdy. It slipped over my iPhone 6S like a glove.

The Camkix fisheye lens is of good quality and a lot of fun to use. See photo below.

Negatives

The telephoto lens is not good It provides only moderately more zoom than the functionality of my iPhone camera does and the quality of the image is poor. See photos below.

Photo taken with basic iPhone lens

Photo taken with Camkix 4in1 Phone Telefoto Lens

Untested

I have not used the tripod yet but many other reviewers have indicated it is sub-standard. I forgot to test the wide angle lens which has to be unscrewed from the fish eye lens to be used. I don't like to have to unscrew two small lenses to use the wide angle.

The price for the three camera lenses, case and tripod was $38 plus free shipping on Amazon. I don't think I will use the telefoto lens much at all, but I do like the fisheye lens and look forward to testing the inconvenient wide angle lens and the tripod.

Overall I am moderately happy with my purchase and don't feel like it was a waste of my money.

May 17 at the Top RF Party in Brentwood

We were treated to a lovely spring party on the deck of a home that overlooks the Brentwood valley.Good food, drinks, weather and friends made it a lovely evening.

My friend Donna, a Lexus driver and 6-figure income earner with Rodan + Fields, hosted a lovely spring Cocktails and Conversations at the Top party last night at her beautiful Brentwood home.

Donna's deck overlooks much of the Brentwood valley and offers a spectacular view that changes with the lighting.

From other direct marketing companies, people have the idea we try to sell them something or sign them up, but that couldn't have been further from the truth last night! We drank wine, ate appetizers, enjoyed beautiful late-spring weather and just socialized and relaxed on the deck.

We even had our own comedienne on hand who kept us entertained all night. Thanks Kari Caldwell Reidle!

Sure, the topic of skincare came up a couple of times, but there was no presentation. Just a small display guests could walk by if they were curious

If you have been looking for something to do in the nooks and crannies of your life that is fun and can bring in a nice income, we should talk! Connect with me below.

House Passes Historic Health Care Language that Defunds Planned Parenthood --Christian Activities

Good News for the Not-Yet-Born!
By a vote of 217-213 - the thinnest of margins - the House of Representatives voted yesterday to advance a health care provision that would defund Planned Parenthood for one year.
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, stated; "We applaud this historic vote by the House of Representatives as a first step in defunding Planned Parenthood which is the largest abortion provider in the world. Every day, Planned Parenthood takes the lives of almost 900 innocent children and over 320,000 every year. The pro-life community will work passionately to see the Senate votes to defund and that this piece of legislation will end up on the desk of President Trump and be signed into law.."

Stop Posting Chain Messages on Facebook!

I AM NOT A FAN OF CHAIN MESSAGES & POSTS ON FACEBOOK, EMAIL, ETC.

There. I said it. I hope I don't come off like I got up on the wrong side of the bed, or worse, like a prima dona, but I am getting WAY too many chain emails on social media that ask me to forward them, or post them as my status, or send them back if I like the person who sent it to me. Even more annoying are the ones that promise a blessing or curse if I do or don't forward them.

Chain emails and messages are a nuisance. They clog Messenger and show "You've got mail" when you really just have spam. One day I opened Facebook's Messenger during a lunch meeting, because I was expecting an important message from a potential customer and saw I had 5 messages. I hurried to open them only to discover they were all chain messages 5 from different people asking me to forward or post on my profile something I wasn't interested in sharing.

Forwarded messages are often a hoax. Frequently they contain information that is untrue or out of date, and no one bothers to fact check before they send it on. There is no little boy named Dakota being life-flighted on account of seizures, for instance, although another little boy went through something similar in Dec. 2016. I was asked to forward that one twice today. The Darkhorse Marine Batallion took heavy losses in 2010, not 2017. I also saw requests to forward this one from 2 different friends.  And Facebook, the American Cancer Society and other organizations don't donate money every time you annoy your friends with a chain post. Use common sense -- how would they even track it???

Check the facts before you ask your friends to pass along information that isn't true or is out of date. A good place to check on hoaxes is Snopes.com although Snopes is not always a reliable source of political information.

Chain messages are repetitive. I bet I have received 15 identical messages the past 2 weeks asking me to post a heart on Facebook for breast cancer awareness.  I will donate money or write a personal message about the causes I believe in, but I won't be posting any hearts, or superheroes, or cartoon characters to supposedly "raise awareness" for a good cause. There are much better ways to do that.

If you want to post something you believe in on your profile or send a personal message to friends about something you think is important, I respect that, but don't ask all your friends to post the same message.

Chain posts are annoying.  Imagine you are waiting for an important message and DING! In comes a message. But instead of being Important,  it's your friend Suzy Q telling you you're a pretty lady and asking you to forward it to 15 other women as well as send it back to her. No thanks. Those chain emails are not personal nor are they as genuine as a sincere compliment, and asking for it to be sent back is simply begging for a compliment. Frankly, that's just sad 😭

Next time you want to include my name in a chain message, email, or post--especially if it asks me to forward it or send it back--please stop before your hovering finger adds my name. I appreciate the friendship and kind thoughts of all my friends on Facebook, but I am growing more and more annoyed by ubiquitous chain messages and posts. They are simply another kind of spam.

Don't forget to forward this to 49 friends and post it as your status for the next 36 hours. I know who will post this and I am taking names of all of you who don't. If you forward it to 49 friends and post it as your status within the next 5 minutes, six miniature unicorns will come visit you tonight at midnight, but if you don't forward this, *I* will come visit you at midnight instead of the unicorns... and I WON'T be HAPPY!

TL;DR  Chain messages on social media are irritating, ineffective, and invasive.
