Bellevue Sears to close in 2015, headed to liquidation sources say - Examiner

As a former Sears associate, I was so sad to hear from some of my friends who are still employed at the Bellevue store that the announcement was made that the store would be closing soon. With recent news of the redevelopment plans for the old Bellevue Center mall finally moving forward, and news about the apartment complex and stores like Sprouts Farmers Market confirmed to be a part of the redevelopment project ( bizjournals.com) , it is not unexpected to hear that the Sears Autocenter is closing on June 12 (see "What is going on with the Bellevue mall?" ). Now store employees say the Sears anchor store which held on for so many years after the rest of the mall closed is heading to liquidation as the store makes plans to close its doors. Macy's Closing Stores and Laying Off Workers Again - Yahoo

Image
I worked for this chain, starting with Castner-Knott Green Hills in the late 1970s as I worked my way through college. I transferred to Castner-Knott in Bellevue Center when that mall was built but had to leave then my mother became terminally ill in 1990. I started working there again when it was Proffits for Christmas and returned again when it was changing over  to Hechts, which in turn became Macy's. I LOVED working for the Nashville-owned-and-operated Castners, but each buyout reduced the quality of the work experience significantly. Eventually the Bellevue Macy's closed during a "reorganization" period.  Now  Macy's is going through another "reorganization" which means more layoffs. The Bellevue Center mall originally opened in 1990 with two anchors, Dillard's and Castner-Knott's. At one point in the mall's early history, Macy's had planned to come in, and Macy's signs even appeared inside the mall where the store was supposed to go, but those plans fell through. During the past 18 years, Castner-Knott's, a popular locally-owned-and-operated retail store and chain, was sold to Saks which had acquired local Castner's competitor, Dillard's. Since there was already a Dillard's operating as an anchor store at Bellevue Center (from 1990 to 2007), the Castner's property was sold within a few months to Proffitt's in 1999. Proffitt's lasted a couple of years before it was sold to Hechts. Hecht's owned th...
