Remembering George Beverly Shea, dead at 104

"Bev was one of the most humble, gracious men I have ever known and one of my closest friends," Billy Graham said in a statement released by the BGEA about the death of George Beverly Shea. "I loved him as a brother. My prayer for his wife, Karlene, and his children, Ron and Elaine, is that God will strengthen them during this time."  Renowned gospel soloist George Beverly Shea died April 16, 2013 following a brief illness. His death was tucked between taxes and the Boston Marathon Attack, so I didn't get the opportunity to give Shea's passing the coverage it deserved. "I first met Bev Shea while in Chicago when he was on Moody Radio," Billy Graham said in a statement. "As a young man starting my ministry, I asked Bev if he would join me. He said yes and for over 60 years we had the privilege of ministering together across the country and around the world."   I wrote this article when he celebrated his 100th birthday M...

Astronaut Neil Armstrong, First Man on the Moon, Dead at 82   Portrait of Astronaut Neil Armstrong, commander of Apollo 11 mission Astronaut Neil Armstrong , the first man to walk on the moon, has died at age 82.  I well remember being fascinated with the news coverage for weeks in advance of the historic first manned flight to land on the moon, and I still have the childhood scrapbook I kept of the momentous occasion packed away somewhere. Even at my young age I knew history was being made, and by keeping the scrapbook and watching the event on television, I was part of that moment on July 20, 1969. Neil Alden Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930 and he died on August 25, 2012 from complication from surgery on August 7, 2012, to relieve blocked coronary arteries. Besides being a NASA astronaut, Armstrong was also a test pilot, aerospace engineer, university professor, United States Naval Aviator. Ad: First on the Moon Neil Armstrong will always be remem...

Marilyn Monroe: 50th Anniversary of Monroe's Death

Image
Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson)  June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962 August 5, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of actress Marilyn Monroe. Fifty years after her untimely and somewhat mysterious passing, Marilyn Monroe continues to be as iconic as she was in the 1950s and 60s. In memory of Marilyn Monroe, these are some of the articles I have written about Marilyn Monroe: Health & weight: How big was Marilyn Monroe & what size dress did she wear? A strange mythology has sprung up over Marilyn Monroe's dress size. For decades I heard Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 back in the 1950s. However, in more recent years, Elizabeth Hurley (2000) and Roseanne Barr (1996) have claimed Monroe was a size 16.
