The Latest Barbie Doll Controversy: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover

Image
The latest Barbie dolll controversy involves the always controversial Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Sports Illustrated has made a fortune objectifying women in skimpy swimsuits and bikinis... and sometimes only paint. Now Mattel has partnered with Sports Illustrated to add Barbie to the Sports Illustrated 50th anniversary edition, and Barbie is getting her own SI cover. The controversy is not so much whether or not a child's toy needs to be in a men's girly magazine (she doesn't), but the fact some people believe both Barbie and the SI models promote an unrealistic body expectation among young girls You can read my take on it in these two articles: Barbie's 'Unapologetic' Sports Illustrated cover causes controversy February 13, 2014 Sports Illustrated is known for swimsuit issues with models who reveal a little too much. That is one reason the new 2014 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Barbie doll, who will a

The Beatles: How They Changed American Culture in My Small Community - Yahoo

Image
The Beatles land in the U.S. -- 1964 Yahoo writers were asked to look back and give a first-hand account of how the Beatles changed American culture. This is my story: The Beatles: How They Changed American Culture in My Small Community It was Feb. 9, 1964, and all the 9-year-old girls in Falls Church, Va. , were talking in class about the "Ed Sullivan Show" on TV that night. I had heard a few Beatles songs but until then had never thought about them. That night I watched something else instead of joining the largest audience ever recorded for an American television program, but the next day it was in every paper and every news show. Beatlemania and the British invasion had begun. With my parents in 1965 Continued at: The Beatles: How They Changed American Culture in My Small Community - Yahoo Also see: Superstars Wynonna and Phil Keaggy celebrate 42nd anniversary of Beatles' Sgt. Gray's Disposal Company in Nashville, TN Still Billing but Not Paying

Gray's Disposal Company in Nashville, Tenn. -- the company who hauled away my mother's antique cabinet and then promised me for NINE MONTHS "the check is in the mail"--has a "D" rating on the Better Business Bureau. Gee, I wonder why? I turned my complaint in tonight to the BBB. I wonder if that will get them an "F" rating? Edwin Gray of Gray's Disposal Company still has not paid me the rest of the money they owe, even though he once again promised me last week the check was going in the mail by Friday. It is Wednesday, and no check has arrive. However, they did have time to send me a bill... which runs through May 2014... for a service I canceled the end of 2013. I wanted to cancel my "service" last May but I waited to cancel until the end of December, trying to work things out. I thought they would pay me right away like they promised! I thought it would be in my best interest to maintain a working relationship with them unt

{PUB}licity Bar & Restaurant in Bellevue -- a Review

Image
I visited a new restaurant in Bellevue this week called {PUB}licity. I went to support a friend who was playing their that night, but I ended up falling in love with their house salad! If I describe it, it sounds not to different from any other house salad but it was possibly the freshest and most delicious house salad I have ever eaten! The rest of the food menus was equally impressive. I will definitely be going back since a lot of food items were marked (V) for vegetarian. While not a vegetarian, I like to eat healthy and a lot of vegetarian food is healthy. I would give them 5 stars for the salad 5 stars for the menu and 5 stars for the overall experience. Oh, and the music I went to hear was Newall and Sorrells, jazz and blues, every Tuesday at  {PUB}licity Bar and Restaurant in Bellevue.
