Pompeii Jewelers Engagement Ring Setting Review

I recently partnered with my fiance to purchase a pretty vintage style engagement ring setting from  Pompeii Jewelers. The ring was advertised in white gold but a call to the company proved Pompeii was more than willing to work with customers on their orders. Not only was I able to get the ring in yellow gold instead of white gold, but I was able to upgrade both the size and clarity of the small diamonds in the setting.

Pros: The company was easy to work with and gave me personalized service as well as the ability to customize my ring setting. The ring is pretty and close to what was pictured in the advertisement. The small diamonds appear to be of good quality with nice clarity and sparkle.

Cons: The size of the stones is somewhat in question. I ordered the ring upgraded to 1/3 carats but my local jeweler told me he thought the stones were probably 1/5 or less. However, Chris at Pompeii told me he personally weighed the stones himself and that they weigh 1/3 carat. In addition, the photo of the ring above shows the sides gracefully tapered at the top of the mounting, but the ring actually has awkward looking “shoulders” where the diamonds and the plain gold sides angle 90 degrees towards the stone which detracts from the overall look of the ring.
The prongs are designed to hold the stone with a little of the prong sticking up above the stone. This is somewhat uncomfortable if the setting turns toward the adjoining finger or if it gets pushed into the skin or dragged across the skin.

Last but not least, I ordered a size 7 1/2 but the ring measures slightly over 7 3/4, so it is somewhat loose on my finger. Chris at Pompeii informed me there is typically a quarter inch variance in the measuring sticks. However, I have purchased quite a few rings from various jewelry stores and have not run into this problem before.

In summary, this setting is pretty and I believe the stones are of good quality. However, it isn’t an exact match to the advertised photo, there remains some question as to the size of the stones and the ring is too big on my finger earning this ring three stars out of five. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
