Mother's Day has been bittersweet for me since I lost my mother in 1991. It hardly seems possible that I haven't seen her in more than 20 years. The endless TV commercials and radio jingles remind me how much I miss my mom, but they also bring some treasured memories to mind: her laugh, her smile, the way she cared for me when I was sick, the weekend drives we took in the country when she was sick with cancer just to get away and enjoy the day.

If you have a mother, no matter what emotional baggage might come with the relationship, make sure she knows she is loved. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

Many readers may not remember the old television program (which actually started as a radio show in 1945) called "Queen for a Day." The show was a forerunner of reality TV shows as female contestants had to tell real-life stories to win. The lady who won would be gowned in a red velvet robe, given a sparkling crown, and handed a dozen long-stemmed roses, and she would win other prizes and trips. Choking on honey: What to do Honey is a thick, viscous fluid which can become trapped in a person's airway. While there are many articles written about using honey to remove obstructions from the throat, there is not much, if anything, written about what to do if someone is choking on honey. I had an experience where I was choking on honey and called the paramedics. I couldn't even speak by the time I had someone on the phone. By the time the paramedics arrived, the honey had dissolved enough for me to begin gasping for air.  The main thing is to NOT PANIC and not inhale it deeper while it is thick. 'Naked and Afraid XL' and Mean Girl Cliques

I just finished watching the third season of "Naked And Afraid XL." I respect these people for leaving the comfort, safety and security of home to face unknown hardships in remote and inhospitable places. I wouldn't choose to do it, so my comments should be viewed knowing I realize I could not do what these people have done. In addition, I am aware that most of the action and dialogue takes place off camera. All my impressions are compliments of a cameraman and a film editor and the scenes they chose to share. A lot happens that that I am completely unaware of. With these two disclaimers in mind, let's talk about Mean Girl Cliques on "Naked And Afraid XL." Every girl comes up against them in elementary school. They become a force to be reckoned with in junior high and have usually become more sophisticated and somewhat nicer in high school.
