Beware Overdrive Viral Scam

About a month ago, of the influencer companies that I do articles and reviews for recently carried several listings from a company called Overdrive. Overdrive promised to pay people to sign up on their site to share acceptable links with the promise of payment for signing up as well as future pay for any links that are shared.

The influencer company I write for has rules: before we do any work, we are supposed to get a formal pitch from any business that wants to work with us. I applied for the Overdrive offer but instead of getting a formal pitch, I received a message telling me to sign up on their site before I would be accepted. Foolishly, I signed up and requested they send the formal pitch. As soon as I signed up, they removed the offer.

However, 3 more Overdrive offers popped up, so I applied for one, and was told to sign up on their site. I told them I already had and was still waiting for the formal pitch. They immediately pulled the offer.

I contacted the influencer company and discovered they were already aware of the problem, but Overdrive was spamming their system with fake offers and they were trying to block them, which they soon accomplished.

Meanwhile, Overdrive has constantly spammed me over the past several weeks with SMS  “offers” to spam all my social media accounts with their links. I sometimes get several “offers” texted to me an hour, asking me to copy and past the links they are promoting. These “offers” come from a different phone number each time, so they cannot be blocked.

My phone now chimes frequently from Overdrive spam. I have tried blocking them, but the spam comes from a different number each time. I have gone to their site to try to close my account. There is no option for that. I have written to them asking the account be closed, and while their site promises that messages are answered “usually in 3 minutes,” but although I requested the account be closed several days ago, no one is replying. I made another request, and then I sent this last message above. No one replies.

The Overdrive con affected a lot of people on the influencer website. It affected the influencer website negatively with numerous spam postings with offers that were never fulfilled. And now Overdrive is constantly spamming anyone foolish enough to have signed up on their site.

Overdrive is a scam that will not honor their promises but instead will spam constantly you with “offers” to spam others. Overdrive is BAD BUSINESS. Don’t be taken in, and don’t spam your followers with their bad offers. That’s a good way to lose followers.
