Life Perspective: Reviews & More

There is a depression in the ground I have covered with tarp to keep water out until I can have some rocks and stones put in to fill it. An Eastern Box Turtle found his way into the depression, but he couldn't get out. Instead he scrabbled at the tarp trying to get a foothold but ended up shredding the plastic and getting the strands wrapped around his legs and pulled into his shell. He literally became attached to the tarp at each leg and all around his shell. A crazy whim drew me to the tarp this week which sits well out of view of my house hidden in some bushes and wild cane. I decided to trim back the tarp and see if the cane might stabilize the depression. As I pulled some of the tarp away, up came the turtle, securely attached to the tarp. I couldn't lift him off but had to go get scissors to cut a circle around his shell so I could begin the task of trying to get him free. It soon became clear there were too many strands of shredded tarp pulled around his legs and...

Lucknow Railway Station Hires a Monkey-Man to Control Local Monkeys: Sometimes Truth Really is Stranger Than Fiction Kathryn E. Darden ,  Yahoo Contributor Network When I was a child, my father was stationed at the US Embassy in New Delhi, India, where we lived for three years. I have always been fascinated with India, so after I graduated from college and spent several years working in sales, I went back to India for a three-week tour. India is home to many strange things: snake charmers, sword-swallowers, wandering holy men, maimed beggars, and other oddities that can be a little overwhelming to Westerners. However, my scariest moment came when I was opening a package of film to put in my camera, and a monkey attacked me, thinking the rattling sound was food. I wasn't injured except for a few small scrapes, as the monkey climbed me all the way to the top of my head where he grabbed the film out of my hand and took off. Monkeys are a problem in many parts of India; t...

Jack and blue bells A year ago in April, I got my little buddy Jack. To celebrate, we went to Edwin Warner park to check out the spring flowers. I was going to take photos of the flowers, but I decided they all looked better with Jack next to them! Jack and purple flowers Jack will never replace my beloved Katy, but he is his own little man. Full of personality, lots of fun, and with fewer of the insecurities Miss Katy had, Jack is a delightful companion and all-round happy little guy. I am glad we are friends. Happy anniversary, little buddy!

How Far and How Long Should You Walk Your Puppy? There is nothing cuter than a little puppy exploring the world, jumping at butterflies, grasshoppers and grass, racing around the yard and tripping over its feet. Exercise is important for puppies, but when should you you start walking a puppy on a leash and how much distance should you plan to cover with your little fur friend? Here are some things I have learned about walking young puppies. Article at: How Far and How Long Should You Walk Your Puppy? - Yahoo! Voices

This is my handsome little puppy, Jack. He is much too cute not to take advantage of it. I plan to put him to work, promoting my products! I have already put Jack to work selling eye cream. Keep in mind, I had a new puppy in the house and was not getting much sleep when this video was shot, so my eyes are almost as dark as Jack's! Now I am putting Jack to work selling my book. The book may be currently out of print, but don't you think I can sell a ton of books if I let Jack do the work? I feel quite confident people would much refer to see his cute little face, so Jack is now in charge of my P.R. department!

I saw a deer outside my window again yesterday, so I grabbed my camera and tried to get a few shots. Then two more deer came out of the woods. Fortunately, there was several deer this time who slowly walked by my window, including one little bitty fellow who looked a bit like Bambi . At least the pics turned out better than last time! Jack walking Molly J ack, my 6-month-old papillon puppy , has a little girlfriend. Molly is an older woman...er...dog, a 5-year-old Malti-Poo who walks in the same park where we walk, and Jack is crazy about her! This is their story. Good golly Miss Molly! You never know where romance will find you. In Jack's case, it was walking in the park to keep fit and get his daily dose of puppy exercise that did it. It started innocently enough with Jack admiring Molly from afar a month or so ago. Oh, he noticed the cute little Malti-Poo temptress alright, but he was too nervous to approach her.  Jack would cautiously check Molly out as she walked by, and hop back a step or two if she looked at him. But watching Molly sashay past with her sassy walk and her little pink halter top proved too much temptation for Jack, and he fell into puppy love.   And they call it...puppy love... Now Jack just can't get enough of Molly. In his efforts to impress her, he l...

Dogs Attacked by Muslims -- Fact or Fiction? Recently there has been a spate of articles on the internet about attacks on dogs and dog walkers in various European countries by Muslims as well as multiple deaths by poisoning of beloved pets whose owners live in heavily Muslim areas of Europe. I also have a story of minor harassment over time while walking my own dogs Jack and Shelby at a local community park. Deer me! The deer in Nashville have grown plentiful and rather tame. There are quite a few that live in my neighborhood, which has plenty of trees for cover. These are the deer I see frequently at Warner Park, who are so tame you can get pretty close to take their picture. This little guy was walking past my window just now. Too bad I scared him when I moved the curtain to take the photo, because he was so close, it would have been a great back-yard wildlife shot. I know it is good to thin the herds from time to time, and I am glad the Lord has provided venison as a food for us, but I must admit, although I never saw Bambi until 2011, I have always hated the thought of these beautiful creatures getting hunted and killed. My dog Katy in the hotel bed in December -- I didn't realize how sick she was at this time, but we had already been to the vet several times at this point. Top Ten Benefits of Vitamin B12 Shots for Dogs The end of 2010, my little dog -- a 7-pound Papillon -- became very stressed after a flood in our house forced us to move into a small hotel room for many months. Moving to a strange location, my own stress, workmen tearing up our house over several months, and a chaotic schedule caused my dog so much anxiety that her little system began to fail.
