Things Your Mother Should Have Taught You: Don't Pie a Grown Woman in the Face

Image
Friday the 13th was a big night for me this year. I have a "decades" birthday on Dec. 19th and wanted to celebrate with some old friends. I have been dealing with a toothache following a crown put on several months ago and have been to the Bellevue Dental every week since then complaining of the pain. Turns out the tooth was abscessing under the crown and they lanced it on Monday (oh so very painful!) and put me on mega doses of antibiotics that have had me going to bed as soon as I got home from work every night this week. I almost called off the party, but I had been looking forward to it so much that I just couldn't bring myself to cancel. After work I hurried home to get ready. I spent time styling my hair. Since I struggle with rosacea, I carefully applied my Soothe treatment followed by my hypoallergenic makeup. I wore my best Nine West pants and a beautiful and expensive Christmas sweater that was a treasured gift. I even wore cute little fringed boots wit...

Lunch with Friends at Ruby Tuesday, Green Hills

Image
The first Ruby Tuesday opened near the campus of the University of Tennessee in 1972 the year my class graduated from high school. I remember eating at the one in Green Hills in the late 70s and 80s with friends. When a Ruby Tuesday opened at the Bellevue Center Mall. I ate there all the time with friends and my brother. Yesterday I returned to Ruby Tuesday on Hillsboro Road with my high school friends Mary Ann and Melody where we enjoyed the meal and looking at the window at our alma mater, Hillsboro HS. Since we gals reconnected at our 40th high school reunion , it was only fitting to eat across the street from our old school. It was a trip down memory lane and a delicious meal all in one. And with the Ruby Tuesday Garden Bar, it was also a fairly healthy meal . You can read about it at: Healthy eating at Ruby Tuesday

My Birthday

Yesterday (December 19) was my birthday and if you must ask, I was 29... again! I had a very nice day - it actually started last night when my older cousin invited me up for my birthday/Christmas and fixed me my favorite meal, curried chicken. She used the recipe my mother brought back from India, so this is curry the way I like it best. It was so good, and she sent me home a casserole dish full! Of course I ate too much! Then I gave her grandkids the presents I had brought up, and it was worth the one-hour trip up just to watch them having so much fun with their presents! Today some friends took me out for lunch downtown, and it was nice just catching up, and, yes, eating too much! It was Christmassy, too, with the decorations. Nashville is looking mighty festive! Then tonight I had a dinner meeting with sword swallower Dan Meyer who caught me up on his exciting career and treated me to a birthday dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. The food was delicious! Why, yes! I DID eat too muc...
