Life Perspective: Reviews & More

I just finished watching the third season of "Naked And Afraid XL." I respect these people for leaving the comfort, safety and security of home to face unknown hardships in remote and inhospitable places. I wouldn't choose to do it, so my comments should be viewed knowing I realize I could not do what these people have done. In addition, I am aware that most of the action and dialogue takes place off camera. All my impressions are compliments of a cameraman and a film editor and the scenes they chose to share. A lot happens that that I am completely unaware of. With these two disclaimers in mind, let's talk about Mean Girl Cliques on "Naked And Afraid XL." Every girl comes up against them in elementary school. They become a force to be reckoned with in junior high and have usually become more sophisticated and somewhat nicer in high school. Even boys know their wrath, but the cruelties of Mean Girls are normally reserved for other girls. Not so on...

Dear Comcast, You are doing a GREAT JOB selling Google Fiber! After the Nashville Flood, I have worked hard to rebuild my life and pay off my flood debts. I started a new business and thankfully, it is meeting my needs but I decided to take on a tenant to help me rebuild my nest egg. My soon-to-be tenant was a Comcast user, and he arranged to have his service transferred here  THE BEGINNING OF APRIL before he moved in the middle of the month. I was on hand the week of APRIL 13 to meet the Comcast technician when he came out. The technician quickly informed me that he could not do the installation because the line would have to be connected over some tree tops. He said a cable would have to be laid. He called Comcast and explained the problem and I heard him say it would be scheduled for APRIL 24 . I asked him to hand me the phone while Comcast was still on the line, and I explained to the Comcast representative that my upcoming tenant was a computer programmer with a b...

Holly Hunter, Wikimedia Commons A Poor Decision on the Part of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment Resulted in Only Two Review Episodes Being Offered of Season Two of "Saving Grace" Holly Hunter is a fine actress, so when I was offered the opportunity to review "Saving Grace" - Season Two on DVD, I jumped at the chance. However, in an effort to save money, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment decided to only issue reviewers the last two episodes of "Saving Grace" - Season Two not the entire season on DVD. Really. That fact was mentioned in the promotional email, but it was hidden between the lines of hype. Imagine if you will, being dropped into the second season of a show, not at the beginning of the season, but at the end. It is hard enough to come into a series at the BEGINNING of the 2nd season. Being dropped into "Saving Grace" - Season Two at the end for purposes of reviewing it makes no sense. Two episodes didn...

Walter Cronkite , often called the "Most Trusted Man in America," passed away on July 17, 2009 at 92 years of age. Much like Paul Harvey , who passed away on February 28 of the same year, Cronkite was a familiar voice and news presence in my youth serving as the anchorman for the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981.   Sex Sells on 'October Road' Season 2 with Bryan Greenberg, Laura Prepon, Tom Berenger (review) October Road which stars Bryan Greenberg, Laura Prepon, and Tom Berenger, was one of my occasional guilty pleasures a few years ago. I say guilty pleasure because October Road is an amoral show about a small town where the cool kids have grown up and are all in their late 20s. I enjoyed Season One on many levels, but I grew dissatisfied with October Road as the series progressed because in Knights Ridge, all problems can be solved by having sex.
