The 2017 GMA Dove Awards took place at my Alma Mater, Lipscomb University, on Tuesday night and I had the privilege to once more be a part of the festivities.  Held at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena to honor inspiring Christian/Gospel entertainment from Rock, Pop and Gospel to Country, Spanish Language, film and more, the night also featured one-of-a-kind performances from artists across the world.  Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) will exclusively air the awards show on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. CST. Katy Hudson, who adopted the stage name Katy Perry, recorded a contemporary Christian album in Nashville before her meteoric rise into pop stardom. Called simply "Katy Hudson," the debut project was a mix of Christian rock and contemporary Christian music and touched on themes of a teenager growing up as well as Hudson's faith in God. But somewhere along the way, Katy lost her faith.  This article looks at Katy's background and her recent revelations on a public therapy session about her upbringing in a Christian home. At points Perry, who says she is trying to find herself as Katherine Hudson again, dissolved into tears as she made revelations about herself and her search for herself. It is interesting to note that the therapist referred to "Katy Perry" as Katherine Hudson's "inner goddess." 2017 BMI Christian Awards winners  BMI held their annual Christian music awards at the BMI offices in Nashville, TN last night, celebrating the most performed contemporary Christian, inspirational and southern gospel songs of 2016.  The invitation-only awards dinner is an eagerly anticipated event each year and draws from an international assortment of Christian music industry leaders, songwriters, publishers, performers and the media. A cclaimed producer and prolific songwriter Bernie Herms received the BMI Christian Music Songwriter of the Year Award at last night’s BMI Christian Music Awards, the top honor of the night and another victory for Herms who won a GRAMMY® for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song earlier this year. The 46th Annual GMA Dove Awards were handed out in 41 categories on Oct. 13 along with four special awards. History of Contemporary Christian Music Celebrated at Koinonia Family Reunion in Nashville Excerpt: In the 1970s Nashville was already the center of country music and and the home to many churches and Southern gospel music. In the early 70s, urban growth combined with the hippie movement married rock and folk music to Nashville's country and church music roots to give birth to a new sound -- "Jesus Music" -- a phenomena which also took place on the West Coast. Mike Blanton announces BE Music & Entertainment's Nashville office One of the pioneering Christian music companies was Nashville's Blanton & Harrell , the company which managed Amy Grant's early career with Dan Harrell being Amy Grant 's brother-in-law. Mike Blanton and Dan Harrell went on to launch Reunion Records in 1982 for artists like Kathy Troccoli , Michael W. Smit h, and Rich Mullins . More recently, in 2002 Mike Blanton and Dan Harrell joined with Steve Thomas to form BHT Entertainment.
