Rover.com Fetches Another Bad Review

Dog owners all know the feeling of needing to find someone to take care of their pooch at one time or another. Maybe it's a vacation, a visit by someone with dog allergies, a trip to the hospital, or a work schedule that does not allow you to walk Fido and Rex regularly. That's why many people turn to Rover.com for dog walking and pet sitting, trusting in the good reviews they see posted online. Sadly, Rover has not lived up to the hopeful expectations of many of their dog walkers or clients with dogs.

Do Your Due Diligence Reading Rover.com Reviews

While many positive reviews can be found where dog walkers extol the virtues of meeting new fur friends on Rover.com, it pays to dig a little deeper if you are concerned about the safety and security of your pet...and home. The reviews of customers on SiteJabber.com paint an abysmal picture with Rover landing a terrible rating of 1.2 out of 5 stars with 93 reviews, some quite horrific, including dogs left alone for 38 hours, and pets that died while in the care of Rover sitters.

Highya.com writes a positive article about Rover, but the customer reviews posted underneath the article tell a different story. Fifty readers chime in with tales of abuse, neglect and death earning Rover.com a score of 1.4 out of 5 stars.

Rover Experiences Range from Underwhelming to Disturbing

This article goes over several less-than-satisfactory experiences the writer experienced with Rover pet sitters over time. Among other things, the author states, "My experiences have mostly ranged from underwhelming to disturbing... I’ll share some details about these experiences, how Rover holds sitters accountable (they don’t), and whether you can trust reviews on Rover (you can’t)."

So why are some reviews fabulous and others so terrible? Like any company, Rover.com has its share of good dog walkers and bad walkers. Plus, a lot of the positive reviews come from the pet sitters themselves. These people have a vested interest in drawing business to Rover as well as making sure they are seen to be making positive comments in case it helps them land more jobs.

Rover.com A Waste of Time and Energy

Good luck with that. In my personal experience, after paying $25 for a background check, jumping through all the hoops of creating a profile and making sure my prices and services were priced moderately, I didn't get one job from Rover in slightly over one year's time--not one job. As one dog walker on indeed.com posted: "In my experience, I would say Rover is an absolute waste of time and energy." CaliforniaMarch 31, 2019

The writer of the article mentioned above lists several reasons he never left a negative review, including the one that probably worries most people: "These people know where I live, have been inside my home, have a relationship with my dog, and know sensitive details about my security, WiFi passwords, etc."

If you have found a sitter you like on Rover.com, by all means, stick with them. Some sitters are responsible. But don't take all the hype at face value. Whether you are looking for a job as a dog walker or a safe place for your beloved pet to stay, when people play fetch with Rover.com, Rover frequently drops the ball.

For my Rover.com review, I am giving it 1 star. *
