One Story, Two Lessons: How My Father’s Advice Guided My Faith and Business

Growing up, the best advice I ever received came directly from my father: "Don't say can't,” and “always try."

For years, as I built my career in publishing, I didn't fully realize how deeply his silent belief in me had laid the foundation for my success. It wasn't until I stepped back in during his battle with Alzheimer’s that I began to see how his lessons in persistence, integrity, and resilience shaped everything I’ve accomplished.

Because this story touches on both my professional journey and my personal faith, I recently adapted it for two distinct audiences:

The Business & Leadership Story: Featured on Influential Women, this version dives into the professional lessons, career mentorship, and the stubborn work ethic required to survive and thrive in business. Read the Business Article on Influential Women

The Faith Devotional: Published on Christian Activities, this expanded version explores the deeper spiritual reflections, scripture, and personal insights on honoring family legacies and overcoming loss. Read the Devotional on Christian Activities

Whether you are looking for leadership inspiration or a moment of personal encouragement, I hope my father's memory reminds you to never say "can't"—and to always try.
