Shungite stones make pretty jewelry, and some believe shungite has health benefits.

You may not have ever heard of this mineraloid, but if you want to make a subtle fashion statement, try a shungite stone pendent. 

Shungite is an interesting mineraloid. It is found in small deposits in several countries, but the largest deposits are in Russia.  

Mineraloids are naturally occurring mineral-like substances that do not demonstrate   crystallinity. Other examples of mineraloids include pearls, opals, obsidian and jet. 

Much like coal and diamonds, shungite is a form of carbon. Like diamonds, shungite is a hard mineral, and like coal, it is black in color.

Numerous health properties have been mentioned for shungite but there are very few scientific studies to back up these claims. Health benefits attributed to shungite include anti-bacterial properties, EMF protection, and other interesting properties.

I bought this shungite necklace pictured above simply for jewelry, and to see what shungite looks like. I wasn't disappointed. Polished shungite has a luster that reminds me of pearls without the iridescence. It makes a simple but unique pendent, which is exactly what I wanted.

Raw Shungite Pendent

The first pendent was so pretty I purchased a second one, called a raw stone shungite pendent.


This Shungite raw stone pendant is eye-catching. It has an intriguing texture and shape--a  little jagged. I guess that's why it's called a "raw stone."
The raw shungite stone is very shiny and reminds me of obsidian. It is somewhat smaller than the first, smooth stone pendent. 

It makes a great piece of jewelry to go with a casual look like jeans and a t-shirt or for a goth or grunge look You can tie the cord so the pendant is whatever length you want it to be.

Choking on honey: What to do Honey is a thick, viscous fluid which can become trapped in a person's airway. While there are many articles written about using honey to remove obstructions from the throat, there is not much, if anything, written about what to do if someone is choking on honey. I had an experience where I was choking on honey and called the paramedics. I couldn't even speak by the time I had someone on the phone. By the time the paramedics arrived, the honey had dissolved enough for me to begin gasping for air.  The main thing is to NOT PANIC and not inhale it deeper while it is thick. Honey will slowly dissolve and thin out. 'Naked and Afraid XL' and Mean Girl Cliques

I just finished watching the third season of "Naked And Afraid XL." I respect these people for leaving the comfort, safety and security of home to face unknown hardships in remote and inhospitable places. I wouldn't choose to do it, so my comments should be viewed knowing I realize I could not do what these people have done. In addition, I am aware that most of the action and dialogue takes place off camera. All my impressions are compliments of a cameraman and a film editor and the scenes they chose to share. A lot happens that that I am completely unaware of. With these two disclaimers in mind, let's talk about Mean Girl Cliques on "Naked And Afraid XL." Every girl comes up against them in elementary school. They become a force to be reckoned with in junior high and have usually become more sophisticated and somewhat nicer in high school.
